Open Parly is a Zimbabwean open data project which started in 2016. The project was developed in collaboration with citizen journalists and focuses on aggregating Parliament data to citizens through social media, tech, apps, online and offline platforms for citizens to engage with elected officials.
The project is one of Magamba’s fastest growing projects and has been replicated in Somalia and Zambia with plans to launch in 2020 in other parts of Africa. Open Parly is also developing the Open Council initiative where its seeking to make local government data available in all the major cities in Zimbabwe.
In 2019 Open Council Harare was launched and by end of 2020 Magamba plans to have established the Open Council Project in Bulawayo, Gweru, Mutare, Masvingo and Bindura.
Through Moto Hacks Open Parly & Moto Republik are developing new citizen driven civic tech solutions to make public data more accessible to citizens for them to make informed decisions.
